Language of choice?

Postby Holiverh » Tue Jul 14, 2009 5:53 am

To artificially generate some discussion :P i decided to find out what languages ya'll have in your arsenal. SGML does count, aswell as JavaScript etc. I think this was a good place to put the topic. :D
Being able to read the code, doesn't mean you understand it.
However, being able to output "Hello world!" and do some mildy useful stuff does. :P

Quick list of common lingos :lol: :
C, C++, C#, Objective-C, Java, Python, Perl, Php, asp(.net), Pascal, BASIC(All dialects), VisualBasic(.net), Ruby, SQL, D#, LOLCODE, JavaScript, GML, (x)HTML, xml, CSS and so on.

Me st00pid, i only have a few:
HTML - lol
CSS - lol
xml - Duh :P
Python - Primary - Simple stuff
Php - An understanding, mild usage
SQL - I understand the concept, and could just about write my own
C++ - Very simple stuff...VERY simple

Hope you don't mind this mildy off topic thread.
Code: Select all
def gravity(x=int):
    x = -x

int gravity(a=short)
    {
    short a = x;
    x = -x;
    }
You may want to correct my C++. I kind of took my knowledge of Python and smashed it into C++. :lol:

Good thread idea Holiverh.

HTML
CSS
BASIC
PHP - Enough to edit basic scripts and stuff, although not a huge amount (looking to improve this)
A basic understanding of Python

C (uber meister :ugeek: )
C++ (expert :geek: )
VB (If I must!) (code monkey)
UML (if that counts, competant)
SQL (casual)
html (casual, probably out of date, for instance no css)
Various chip's assembler (rusty)
Z80 machine code (no, not assembler; machine code! rusty)
AMD Bit Slice micro-code (I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you... :!: )
Basic (rusty)
Pascal (rusted solid, weeds growing)
Fortran (rusted solid, underwater, small fish living in there)
ADA (rusted solid, and never was a favourite)
occam (did I even spell it right? I programmed a supercomputer array in 1988)
php5 (noob)

Edit : I do still design and code myself; often to recover the gosh-awful mess less experienced men have made of it. I also mentor young designers and engineers, and project lead teams of up to 20 hostile members. :roll:

Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular.

Wow, that is a huge number Bigwheel! You have the hardcore ones down and all which is great. I didn't even recognize three of them (UML, ADA, occam). Do you actively use programming in you're job, or is that now left up to others perhaps under you're control etc?
